Background of the Study:
Institutional repositories have become invaluable tools in modern academia, offering streamlined access to a vast array of research outputs. At Edo State Polytechnic, Usen, these digital repositories are increasingly important for postgraduate research. They serve as centralized digital libraries that store theses, dissertations, research articles, and other scholarly works, thereby ensuring the preservation and widespread dissemination of postgraduate research. The repositories not only support individual research endeavors but also facilitate critical peer-review and collaborative learning among postgraduate students. However, the impact of these institutional repositories depends on their accessibility, user-friendliness, and the overall digital literacy of the postgraduate community. This study investigates how effectively the repositories support advanced research and contribute to the academic growth of postgraduate students. It critically examines the technical, administrative, and infrastructural challenges that may affect repository usage and, in turn, the overall quality of postgraduate research (Okoro, 2023; Chinedu, 2024).
Statement of the Problem:
Despite the theoretical benefits of institutional repositories, postgraduate research at Edo State Polytechnic, Usen is hindered by challenges such as limited access, low user engagement, and technical issues in repository management. Inadequate training and infrastructural deficits further diminish the potential impact of these repositories on research quality and collaboration. Consequently, the repository’s contributions to postgraduate research remain suboptimal, calling for an in-depth investigation into these barriers and possible remedial actions (Okoro, 2023).
Objectives of the Study:

To assess the effectiveness of institutional repositories in supporting postgraduate research.

To identify technical and administrative challenges affecting repository use.

To recommend strategies for enhancing repository impact on research quality.
Research Questions:

How do institutional repositories affect the quality and dissemination of postgraduate research?

What challenges do postgraduate students encounter when accessing these repositories?

What improvements can be made to optimize repository functionality?
Significance of the Study:
This study is significant because it evaluates the role of institutional repositories in enhancing postgraduate research at Edo State Polytechnic, Usen. The results will inform policy makers and academic administrators about necessary improvements in digital infrastructure and training, leading to more effective research dissemination and academic growth (Chinedu, 2024).
Scope and limitations of the study:
This study is limited to evaluating the impact of institutional repositories on postgraduate research at Edo State Polytechnic, Usen. External influences and inter-institutional comparisons are not considered.
Definitions of Terms:

Institutional Repositories: Centralized digital collections of academic research and scholarly outputs.

Postgraduate Research: Advanced research activities conducted by students pursuing postgraduate degrees.

Research Dissemination: The process of distributing research findings to a wider audience.
